Quite a birthday!

Colten's birthday party was this last Saturday and it was lots of fun, with some cancelations and meltdowns thrown in. The weather was perfect. It was in the 70's and beautiful. Colten had a great time decorating his "Candyland" cake.
Colten also had a meltdown right as we were expecting people to arrive. Colten was adamant that he didn't want to grow up and therefore didn't want a birthday party. After calming him down we realized that he thought he would grow up big like daddy, but in a day! Tony and I explained to him that he wouldn't grow that much just because he was turning 5! He mellowed out enough to enjoy the party.
Colten's favorite part of the party was, of course, the presents! We got lucky this year and didn't recieve any annoying noisy ones!! Thanks girlfriends for the wonderful gifts he did get. With the wonderful weather he did get to try out his new bubble gun and got the cats to chase the bubbles outside.
It was a long day with several people who had RSVPed and said they would be there and then at 2:00 (when the party was supposed to start!) called and said they couldn't make it. What really gets me is the reasons they gave! Ok, the family with the sick kid is excused, though I've never had an event when their kid was healthy! What gets me is the parents who cancelled because the weather was nice and the family was working outside or had family in town and were spending time visiting with them. It makes me really mad that I spent all the money and time putting together goodie bags for all the family. Colten was disappointed that some of his friends weren't there.

Definitely a toddler

It is sad when you realize your baby is no longer the cuddly baby you used to hold close in your arms. Carson still likes to snuggle (preferably at 2 am!) but no longer likes to be held like a baby, lying in my arms. He now likes to put his head on my heart and hug me while I rock him. He decided to change this last week while he was sick and miserable. One more baby stage to miss, at least until the next one comes along!

Snow in March!?!

I was shocked to wake up yesterday and see 5 inches of snow!! Surely school would be canceled, or at least late right?? No! It was running on time. It didn't really matter because I was at home with a sick baby, but big brother still had to go to preschool. Colten liked playing in the snow, but my flowers didn't care for it. They were little frozen lumps under all the ice and snow. Hopefully they'll snap back, or I'll have lots of wilted flowers to save.
Carson is getting better and actually wanted to play last night and take a bath. Colten gets to go on a trip with his grandma this weekend and ride the train up from Salem on Monday! He's really excited to go. The addition is moving along and should be sheetrocked next week. Then we get to paint and do the finish work.

Windows, stairs, and a deck!

This week we had windows, a deck, and finally stairs (no more climbing up and down the scary ladder!). We are supposed to get insulation, and siding this week and sheetrock the following week. It is moving along.

What a crazy, crazy week!

We had Easter this morning with finding eggs and getting chocolate. I even fixed a nice breakfast and we all got dressed in nice clothes for going to church. Colten had a great time finding eggs and was upset when his breakfast couldn't be the chocolate rabbit. Carson found a couple eggs but had more fun moving them from carton to carton and then banging the eggs together and cracking them.

This last week started out at a nice hotel in Cascade Locks on the Columbia River. It was my grandparent's 60th wedding anniversary celebration. I was in charge of creating, editing, and showing the movie I made of all the pictures my grandparents brought up a week before the celebration. I was up all Friday night; did I mention the hotel was nice, right on the water, also right along the RR tracks!! Saturday night I was up all night burning DVD's of the movie for all 17 families that were there. We stopped on the way home by Multnomah Falls and had a great break from driving and got to see the great view.

I had grades due this Wednesday and had a stack of essays to correct. I've got a yearbook deadline tomorrow, and I have pages that aren't even really started! I spent every spare minute I had this last week in class working on the yearbook. The weather yesterday was good so I begged my mom to watch Carson and I worked with my big boy outside moving plants and planting new ones. I also put up a fence so my doggies will no longer take the shortcut through my plants.

We have a Roof!!!

...and plumbing, and siding, the deck, and electrical should be going in next week! This remodel has been really crazy with all the rain and getting people out to our house. But, it is starting to look like a place to live, not some strange growth coming out of our garage!

My boys are growing up!!

My baby is now officially a toddler!! He is walking everywhere and can't move fast enough to suit him!

Colten is now into the really interesting world of airplanes and of course fighter jets. The most interesting thing about them is of course the big explosions that happen when they crash! What is your pre-schooler doing watching plane crashes you might ask?!? Well, I can thank my father and U-tube for all the wonderful footage Colten has watched.
