Why husbands are handy to have around

It was really windy last night and I was wondering all night when the power would go out and how late I'd be getting up this morning. Well the power didn't go out and I was on time going in to work, until I almost ran into the fir tree across our road. I immediately got on the cell phone to the husband. "There's a tree across the road and I can't back up and turn around. Can you come fix it!?" Nice husband left Colten watching cartoons, got dressed, and hurried down the hill to help. A few minutes with his manly chainsaw and the trees (there were actually two) were small pieces that he could move quickly. A quick "Thanks honey" and he was off to get the boys ready and I was on my way into work. Downed trees is just one more downfall to living in the boonies, but it was kinda sexy to see my man fixing something for me. It made my day!

The Last Nursing

Saturday was the last nursing for Carson. I've got mixed feelings about it, but there is very little I can do. Carson has become increasingly uninterested in nursing me or bottles so I've been storing up the snuggle memories for when he quit. I'm sad to miss the snuggling and closeness, but looking forward to wearing my old clothes and cute non-nursing bras. I'm hoping my body will finally let go of the last few pounds of baby weight it was desperately holding on to. My husband is excited to have his playthings back, but not that they will shrink to their demure size. I think it will be easier to end it now when Carson wants to and not have to deal with stopping it when he is much older. Now my husband does have to take equal turns getting up with a cranky teething baby at night, becuase he no longer needs just me. I guess it is time to pack away the bras and pump, remember the snuggles, and enjoy the freedom. I guess I'm just a little sad because this is the first step of independence, and my little baby is now a fast paced toddler!

Baby Submarines

So last night was really crazy; finalizing the floorplans for the addition, reviewing the budget (glup!!) with the builder, talking with the in-laws about can you afford this much and do you want to continue!!! I finally got the baby in his bath and was sitting on the toilet reading my magazine. All of a sudden I hear a noise. Baby looks down at the water all excited, more bubbles! A few minutes later; more noise and baby now starts giggling because there are more bubbles. I continue reading my magazine and glance at baby in the tub. I grab baby out of the tub and call to hubby, "Honey, I need help! We have a submarine alert in the bath tub!!" Nice hubby takes the baby and dresses him while mommy gets to drain the tub, fish out the toys and mess, and sterilize the entire area. I rush downstairs and notice that husband was wonderful and loaded the dishwasher, but there was still some space I could cram the toys. When he comes down with the baby he automatically accuses me of rearranging his dishes, like he didn't do well enough his way! I had to calm him down and thank him for doing the dishes, and point out the room available for the now contaminated bath toys to fit. This calms him down and he is mellow again.
I can laugh about it now that this is my second child and I know how much clean up is involved with bathtime mishaps, so hopefully those of you reading this with children can relate as well and remember your baby submarine days!

Bad, Bad Doggies!

Today my dogs were in big, big trouble. Hubby took Colten into his work for a while, and I'm running around the house like crazy while Carson was napping. Two hours later "T" comes home and asks, "Where are the dogs??" and then just starts blaming me for not watching them. Like I'm supposed to baby sit the dogs too?! Dogs were eventually found, by my mom, almost being hit on the road and she kindly brought them home. Upon further inspection we find that Buddy's collar has no wireless fence receiver on it, again. The dog has now lost TWO of these expensive receivers. So tomorrow I get to go and buy another one, for $90+!! Not a lot of money around my house now. "T" and I have a plan though, with a new receiver and newly fixed wires, the dogs will get another training session with the collar and it will be set on the highest setting, FRY! See if they feel like leaving the yard after that! I can only hope it will prevent them from costing us more at the vet one day!

First ever blog!

In an effort to keep up with my tech-savvy city friends, I've started this blog. It seems to be the only way to keep up with everyone in the busy world today.
As for my weekend, very lazy. Colten was with the grandparents all day yesterday getting clams. He was so excited and wants to have clams for dinner. Fortunately he wasn't around to view the slicing and dicing this morning. Hubby has been gone the last few nights hanging out with the guys, and is taking my oldest to the monster truck show tonight. I'm hanging out with the little one at my mom's and grabbing a free meal and free internet time. Tomorrow I have off for MLK day, but have 50+ student fairytales to correct and be ready to hand back Tuesday.
I'm really trying to make an effort to stop eating so unhealthy and to start to lose some of this baby weight. I'm still nursing just a little bit, but really want to look good for summer. Who knew giving up good chocolate each night would be so difficult. That and getting up at 5:00 to ride the bike in the gym, because that is the only time my family will let me be!
