Well life is getting more and more busy at our house. We finally have a second story on the garage and the framing is done. Now they are working at getting a roof on and then siding. I just wish they could get our furnace vented so we can close the garage door and keep the cats in there at night. I adore our furry little darlings, but not at 3 am when they sense prime hunting time and want out. At least they don't go hungry outside.
I am finally over my pink eye experience, but the rest of the family isn't. Colten came down with it on Tuesday and missed preschool yesterday. He was supposed to bring snacks but when I explained that he had pink eye and wouldn't be attending they were very understanding. They really didn't want a class full of pink eye. Today his eye is much better and looks normal so we will send him to school. I just pray that Carson doesn't get it. It's tough enough putting drops in a preschooler's eyes, much less a toddler's.
I know it is still February on the calendar, but it feels and looks like spring to me. My flowers are blooming and my daffodils are getting ready to pop. It really makes me want to get outside and clean up all the weeds and mess of winter, but outside work is difficult with a one year old. If I knew he would sit in one place and just be happy I would love it, but no, Carson has to crawl around getting bark and dirt all over and deciding which tastes best! I can put him in the backpack for a little while, but not for long weeding stretches.

All well with the family

Everyone in my house is finally healthy and back to normal, well except for my pink eye. Carson's appetite finally returned, and though Colten keeps telling us his tummy hurts, he still wants to eat snacks and we know it is a lame game of control.
I was a wonderful wife and watched the kids all day Saturday so my hubby could go quad riding with his friends out in the real wilderness across from our house. I played with the boys and had a nice time. It is not always easy to play with my children, especially when someone else is in the house and is often ignoring them. Not that Tony is a bad father, but more often than not the TV is on and he is getting upset at the kids for being too loud. It makes me wonder if having the TV and radio on so much are responsible for the speach delays of my boys. No proof, but I just wonder. So I really played with the boys on Saturday and kept the TV and radio off. I did have them entertain each other for a while so I could finally get our taxes ready to file. I'd been waiting for a month to get my husband's W-2. I hate how slow the paperwork is in small po-dunk towns.
My husband (reluctantly) returned the kid-watching favor and kept Colten outside all day Sunday and even put the boys to bed since I got them up and fixed breakfast with them. I really needed the time to dive into the hours of correcting I had. Why I ever decided to become a teacher I don't know some days. I did get to sleep early and even have been remembering my wonderful eyedrops. Now my eyes only itch a little and are no longer an alarming shade of red which my students all pointed out so well on Friday.
It was amazing what a phone call to our contractor did for the pace of our addition. They actually worked a full day on Friday and we now have a floor and two walls up. Hopefully they will get more done today. Only bad thing, they haven't re-vented our furnace vent so we have to leave the garage door open for the fumes to get out.

All on the Mend

I think the stomach flu has finally run it's course in my house! The place is a mess and no one has any energy to take care of it though. Thank goodness the housekeeper was coming today to clean though. Even with three bathrooms, all were well trashed by the three sick family members. Colten will be able to attend school tomorrow and Carson gets his one year shots! What a wonderful way to spend my day!

The Weekend that Never Ended

I never thought I would say it but I was happy to go back to work today and leave my husband at home with the childer! My weekend was the worst one ever and couldn't end soon enough.
It all started with a wonderful playdate with all the girlfriends and their great kids. My husband even made me dinner Saturday night to make up for his lack of Valentine's day present. He really cooked! Having cooking magazines lying around really helps!
Then just as I was falling asleep that night, Carson wakes up. Tony went up to rock him and I hear him call, "Em, really need your help!"
I'm slowly going up the stairs wondering what lame thing he needs help with when I smell it; vomit! Uh! That is the last thing I wanted to deal with! We get Carson changed and cleaned up and start a load of laundry to wash. Just as we were getting back to sleep he cries out again, and he had puked again. Being the nice wife I told hubby to go back to sleep and turn off the monitor and I'll stay up with baby. Carson woke up every 1/2 hour until 6:00 am! Finally tired of doing laundry, I put kiddo in bed with me and got really good at sitting him upright and catching the vomit in burp clothes. By morning baby and I were exhausted and smelled of puke!
Just as baby was getting more sleep and feeling better, I had to race for the bathroom myself. I didn't sleep Sunday night because of my frequent trips to the bathroom.

Not only was being sick bad enough, but the roof was ripped off our garage for the weekend. Now, if I knew good weather was happening and that rain was coming in soon, I'd be working hard as a contractor to get the floor on the addition up before the rain. Obviously my contractor doesn't think like that. He showed up at 10:00 yesterday and left before 4:00. Nice short work days! Now it's supposed to rain tonight and I don't know if all the sheetrock in my garage will get soaked or what! I'd love to complain, but I don't want him walking off the job. Also, his family helps babysit my kids, so pissing off the family wouldn't be great either.

So last night I'm sitting in the kitchen feeding a now-well Carson, and Colten comes running down the stairs from his bath crying. After calming him down I find out that he threw up in his bath. I get things cleaned up and sterlized and Colten and Carson watching TV, and Colten tells me he wants a drink from the bathroom. He throws up again!! I called the sitter and told her not to worry about my kids for today, and told husband to call in sick. My wonderful man slept upstairs to be close in case Colten got sick in the night. I went up this morning and found them snuggled up on the floor with their puke bowl between them. My husband is now the final vicitim of the illness. He was sounding horrible this morning before I kissed him on the forehead and left for work!

My Little One Turns One!

Saturday we had a party for Carson's 1st birthday, even though he doesn't turn one until Wednesday, it was great to have friends and family. Typical 1st birthday though! Carson hardly ate anything all day, didn't nap, and was mostly in a daze the entire time of the party. He didn't even get excited about his cupcake!! My mom fed him and put him to bed at 5:30, before all the family stayed and had a big noisy spaghetti dinner. It was good to have people over and get our house cleaned.

My mom was wonderful helping out with the party. She kept the boys the night before so we could get the house clean, sort of. She also kept Colten all day Saturday so he could help her make and decorate the cupcakes and wrap presents. I was really worried about how Colten would act since it wasn't his party, but he was great and felt like he really had a part in it by helping my mom. Now all he can talk about is what he wants for his birthday and how he will make things for it. I just want to make it through Valentine's, Easter, and the addition on the garage!!! I'll deal with the next birthday after that!

A Pleasant Surprise!

Yesterday morning my husband informed me he was staying home to "relax" and taking the boys to the sitter. I was furious, wondering, "Didn't you relax enough on Sunday for the eight hours you spent at a friends super bowl party drinking and playing poker?!?" Not that I told him so. I just told the husband that if he was staying home and I was spending $40 for the sitter, he had to clean the house for Carson's birthday party. Not that I expected anything done.
I got home and my house husband had actually cleaned!! He had dusted all the pictures and nicknacks, scraped the stickers and kid drool off the coffee tables, and even folded and put laundry away!! The best part was he cleaned the kitchen, did the dishes, and even made dinner; a recipe out of one of my cooking magazines! I walked in after work loaded down with kids and stuff to a great smelling dinner and a clean house. I was very pleased, and tried to show him how happy I was. After dinner he took Colten to a high school basketball game and even put Colten to bed for me. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised!

Not quite as planned

Last night didn't go quite as I had planned it. My husband was staying at a sleep clinic for his sleep problems and I had the house and boys to myself. I thought I'd sleep all night, and even be able to sleep in before my husband came home this morning well rested and ready to watch the boys while I worked out. It was a nice dreamy plan, but not to be. The boys went to bed on time and with minimum fuss. I was asleep by 9:30. 1:00 am: MEOW! The cats wake me up because their food bowl was emtpy. I had been a little lonely so I let them sleep with me. I finally get back to sleep after booting both Bob and Wendel to the garage. 5:30 am: Carson wakes up cranky!! He had a poopy, leaky diaper and I had to change his diaper and clothes. Finally after a quick bottle he's back asleep and I stumble down the stairs to my room. 5:40: "Mommy, I heard something scary and I need to go potty now!" Colten tells me just as I got back in bed. After helping him take care of business and tuck him back in, he goes back to sleep. I get another hour of sleep before my groggy husband came home and went back to sleep in bed. I took pity on the poor man and let him sleep the morning away while I took the kids and worked out. At least he was very appreciative and watched the boys this afternoon so I could relax and enjoy lunch and a book to myself.
