14 weeks

Had a doctor's appointment today. I gained 2 pounds and the baby is healthy and with a good strong heartbeat. I'm even feeling a few flutters if I'm sitting just right. My next appointment is October 8th and I have my ultrasound then.
It's been a rough week at school dealing with all the planning for outdoor school. I've got another long night tomorrow night and am going to bed now. I'm exhausted!

8 years of wedded bliss?

Ok, so it wasn't all bliss, but 8 years is a long time in my mind to be married together and 9 years is my longest relationship so far, and still going strong. I know, those of you who know, my anniversary isn't until tomorrow! Well, when you're a teacher and mom, you celebrate when you can. I'm working a 12+ hour day tomorrow, so Tony and I went out last night.
My in-laws were wonderful and watched the boys. They fixed them dinner and put them to bed for us. Tony and I went and did a little shopping first, I need maternity tops, and then went to a movie. We only get to see movies about once a year because that's all we can afford it. We went and saw "The Dark Knight". It was ok for me to watch, but I have a tough time watching any kind of violence when I'm pregnant, so I had my eyes closed for the gorey parts. It was good to see Heath Ledger's last film, but since I didn't see him without make up or hear the cool Aussie accent, it wasn't the same experience. I'll just have to watch an oldie to get a dose of his hotness! The best part about the movie is we had a gift card, so the entire thing, including concessions, was free!
After the movie we went to dinner. Tony had a gift card to Red Lobster from his birthday that we decided to use. Usually what we order depends upon the price, but this time it was nice because we ordered what we really wanted. I ate, and ate, and was stuffed with shrimp goodness by the time we left.
My appetite has really picked up, but then, so has my weight. All that good food and buttery sauce has taken a toll on our barely recovered tummies. Tonight is dinner at home and lots of veggies from mom's garden, hopefully that will fix the tummy problems.
I'm back to school tomorrow to finish classroom prep and open house night. Tony and the boys are going to NW Trek for the day and should have a lot more fun than I'll have at school. It's back to the regular routine now. Summer is officially over. It's hard to believe it, especially when the weather is supposed to be nice later this week.

Tummy aches and other rambling

I have been rather lazy these last few days. Maybe it is because I've been back to work this week (M-W) or because I'm trying to relax before the start of school. I haven't cooked the last few nights, but it's not without tummy consequences. Oh, the kids are fine. They can eat anything. I've been craving cheese and fried foods. So what do we get? Mexican last night at the local Mexican place. The kids were good and the food was great. The salsa wasn't as good as I remember, but my enchiladas and beans were loaded with gooey cheese! Then today Tony and I went to visit his grandparents and test drive the Jeep they are selling to us. By the time we got done with that errand and a quick trip to the bank (Payday!), it was late and the kids were fussy. I only seem to crave KFC when pregnant. The last time we bought it I was 7 months along with Carson. I have been craving fried chicken for weeks, ever since the coupon flier came in the paper! So I talked Tony into stopping. How could he argue if I was buying? I got a 9 piece meal of extra crispy with potatoes and beans. My husband was rather upset about not getting coleslaw when that was the one thing he'd been wanting, but I don't like it and didn't get any. Colten claims it is the best meal ever and thanked me for getting it.
All this good calorie laden food has taken its toll on us adults in our stomachs. After too many days of beans (Taco Bell, bean dip, Mexican, KFC) our stomachs are roiling and rumbling all night long. It will make sleeping tonight interesting, but I am looking forward to leftovers at midnight.
I haven't slept well the past two nights, probably because I haven't taken the Unisom at night. I'm trying to make sure I'm not hooked on it. Yesterday my nausea was gone, but today I almost lost it in the car. Maybe it was the Mexican starting up. I figure I'm into my second trimester now and should be feeling good without the medicine. How will I know when I'm feeling better, by being off the medicine. I've felt awful today, but hope to sleep well tonight. I just keep waking up hungry at 12:30 and don't want to get up and eat, not that there is much at the end of the month, and instead try to fall back asleep and stare at the clock for an hour. Not very good when sleep is what make me happiest. If things don't get better by Tuesday I'll take the medicine again, just because I need my sleep for teaching.
Yesterday we got my classroom mostly set up and my mom helped me move her turtles into my class. I now have class pets! The boys ran up and down the halls while my mom put up bulletin boards and I pestered the secretary for yet another updated class list. Being a small district means we have scheduling nightmares. I've seen three different class lists so far this week, but I like the latest one the best. I think the only changes now will be from the picky parents who want to request a specific teacher because they don't like me, or those who want me because they don't like another teacher. It drives us all crazy, but for some reason they just can't tell the parents no and to deal with it!
As for my two children, Carson learned two new words this week: All Done and bye-bye. He is so cute copying everything we say and gets so excited when we correctly repeat what he says. Colten has been very fussy this week and I think it's because he isn't sleeping well. He is also trying to make his opinion known to Tony and I, but isn't realizing we are still in charge. Colten still thinks that when he wants something he still gets it, even when we say no, and he throws a fit. It's a tough lesson, but it's a good one to know!
Colten did come to me tonight all upset claiming something was up his nose! I looked, but didn't see anything and told him to go tell daddy. Daddy looks and finds a Styrofoam ball from the bean bag chairs up it. Colten then had to explain through his hysteria how it got up there. We eventually discovered he put it up there on purpose. He has NEVER put anything up his nose! But I think this experience will discourage further exploration of what does and doesn't fit in his nostril!

Cooling off and mile stones

These pictures are from last weekend, you know, when it was 97 degrees outside and I have no air conditioning! A friend of Tony's has a nice big pool in their backyard and said we could use it on Saturday. They were around and their kids were in the pool, but all my boys loved cooling off. Colten even floated around by himself with his life vest and noodle and Carson loved being in the floater! Tony tried to use it as a reason why we should invest in a pool like this, but didn't convince me!
Other mile stones; I'm 12 weeks pregnant and I consider myself leaving the first trimester. I still feel yucky on days like today, even with the medicine, but that will hopefully change soon. I haven't gained any weight yet, though that will probably change soon. I've started liking chocolate again and indulged in my craving today. I'm always hungry, even when I want to puke, so I'll be eating more when school starts.
I start back to school next week with teacher meetings and setting up my classroom. I've been having nightmares about my class schedules and roster. After my principal overheard me telling another teacher about one, he went to the secretary and told her to switch my schedule! What a great boss I have! My weekend will be busy but I need to cram in some school work to be ready to teach my co-workers on Tuesday!
Colten got his letter from pre-school. He starts back to school on September 4th! He's excited to go back to a familiar classroom and teacher. He is also excited to go back to the sitters and see her boys there. The boy's first day at the sitter's is September 2nd. With me going back to work next week, I don't have to be at school as early as I usually like to be, so it gives Tony a chance to get back into the morning routine of getting the boys ready and out the door on time. While is stinks to be waking up early, it is nice not to deal with breakfasts, diapers, and dressing squirmy children. I just worry about myself and head out the door.
Carson has started saying words this last week. His vocabulary now includes: please, kitty, daddy, mama, doggy, bird, baby, and all done. It has been strange because all of a sudden he has started repeating things I'm saying, and though a little mangled, still understandable! Also, he now has all four molars through! I just happened to check yesterday and all four are there! Maybe that's why he was so cranky last week! Oh, well!

Insane in the Mommy Brain!

For all of you out there who read this (all 5) that are stay at home moms, I truly admire the fact that you stay at home all the time with your children and they survive! At the beginning of summer I thought it would be easier to stay at home with the kids and not fill up the days with swimming lessons, soccer lessons, and a multitude of errands to run. Being newly pregnant I thought not only that this would save money from the lessons and gas, but give me more time to be at home and get things done. I think I'm starting to go crazy at home.
Colten has been very whiny since he went camping for ten days, and after ten days without hearing his pathetic whining, I've lost all tolerance for even a little bit of it. I've become the "time-out" Nazi with a timer in one hand and wooden spoon in the other. Colten is constantly in time out and keeps telling me he wants to be nice and not whine, but he doesn't show me any different behavior. Carson, after seeing how his brother acts, has decided that 18 months is the right time to start throwing temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. He's been in time out as well. All I want are my boys to play nicely and make the last two weeks of summer easy for me. I would like to actually feel guilty having to leave them with a sitter, instead of jumping for joy at the thought of getting away from my children to go deal with middle school students!
I've tried taking the boys outside to play because they like being outside, but also because you can ignore/ not hear the whining so bad. That is until they soak themselves playing in the dog's pool, or bean each other with sticks, or fight over the "cool" red car until one of them has their toes run over and a scraped knee. (girlfriends, you know what I'm talking about!)
I wonder if my day would go better if I still felt really lousy and didn't set such high expectations for what I want to get done. I've done more in the last two days alone, than the entire summer! Maybe I need a nap instead of spending my time blogging.

Ultrasound says...

There is only one healthy baby! I've tried to post the picture of the ultrasound several times but it just isn't working between computers and scanners. I'll try it again soon and add the picture in. We've got a really cute one. The doctor says that everything is great and has a strong heartbeat of 174 bpm. The baby is measuring about four days larger than my due date, but that we will keep the date as March 6, 2009. I've only gained 3 pounds so far! This is great, but once my appetite returns, that will change fast. We told Colten about the baby tonight and showed him pictures of the ultrasound. He seemed interested in if the new baby would be nice or mean to him, but is still thinking about if he wants a brother or sister.
The best news of the visit is the doctor told me to take Unisom to help me sleep through the night and for the nausea. The other night I tossed and turned for hours before falling asleep (even though I was exhausted) and then right at 1:00 am, I woke up and my mind was just running in overdrive. I was certain there was a swarm of baby spiders crawling under the bed and every time something touched me I freaked out thinking that it was a spider. I really wanted to wake hubby up and take apart the bed, but instead I sat and watched the time pass. I tried the unisom last night and fell right asleep. The dogs woke me up howling at police sirens at midnight, but I fell right back asleep. I was still kinda groggy this morning, but even better, the nausea is much better. I could actually eat and then go do things without crashing on the couch wanting to puke! I even had energy to get things done today and put the boys to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be even more productive so I can catch up on all the things I've been neglecting.
*Next doctor's appointment: September 10th.

Back from Camping

We went to our church's family camp this last week and just got back. The camp is in the foothills of Mt. Rainier and is really beautiful. It's not that far from our house either, so all the things we forgot when we packed in a hurry, we went back and got the next day. The weather this year was lousy though. It rained most of the time! Friday was nice enough for us to take the kids down to the lake to go swimming. It was Carson's first time in his swim shorts, and even though they are size 18 mos, he doesn't have enough butt to keep them up. He had a great time standing in the water and throwing rocks. Eventually he got cold and uncomfortable with rocks in his sandals and fussed. He cheered up with animal crackers though.

Colten actually went swimming willingly and wanted to go more, but it rained Saturday afternoon. He even remembered some of the things he learned in swimming lessons the last few summers. I don't feel as guilty about not doing lessons this summer now, knowing that he remembered something.

As far as the camping went, it was fun to visit with friends from church, but tiring. We didn't get much sleep and the boys were up all the time wanting to play.

As far as the pregnancy goes, I'm worse that before and praying for the next two weeks to fly by. I've never wanted to have summer over quickly before, but if it means I'll be feeling better, I want it over. I have my first ultrasound tomorrow and I'm actually nervous. I've never been this sick with a baby before, and though I tell myself everything is fine, I'm worrying about everything. I worry that there's no heartbeat, or worse, no baby, and even though this was the most unplanned pregnancy, I want everything to be healthy. I know my mom is anxious to find out if I'm having twins or not! She had a dream.... I'll scan in the ultrasound picture and post the proof tomorrow.
